Why Good Sleep Is the Secret to a Great Vacation

· 2 min read · By the BigTree Stays team

Rest is the whole point of getting away. A few simple habits help you sleep deeply and come home truly recharged.

We plan trips around beaches, restaurants and outings, but the thing that decides how good a vacation feels is often sleep. Rested travelers are calmer, more patient with each other and more present for the moments that matter.

Most adults need at least seven hours a night, and travel tends to chip away at that: early flights, new beds, late dinners and bright rooms. The good news is that a beach trip is the perfect chance to catch up.

Get outside in the morning light, which helps set your body clock. Keep the bedroom dark and cool, many sleep experts suggest somewhere in the mid 60s Fahrenheit. Go easy on late caffeine and on that extra nightcap, since alcohol can disrupt deeper sleep. And give yourself permission for an afternoon nap after a morning in the sun.

We put a lot of care into how our bedrooms feel: hotel-quality linens, plenty of pillows and blackout shades, so mornings start when you are ready.
