Snorkeling Point of Rocks on Siesta Key

· 2 min read · By the BigTree Stays team

At the south end of Crescent Beach, rocky outcrops shelter fish, crabs and sea life. Our tips for a great snorkel.

Most of Siesta Key is soft, sandy and smooth underwater. Point of Rocks, at the southern end of Crescent Beach, is the exception, and that is what makes it fun.

Here, limestone rock formations reach into the shallow Gulf, creating nooks where small fish, crabs, sea urchins and other creatures hide. On calm, clear days, snorkelers can float right over them in water that is often only waist to chest deep.

The best conditions come on mornings with little wind and flat water. Wear water shoes, since the rocks can be sharp, and never stand on living things.

It is a short walk down the beach from the Crescent Beach accesses, which makes it a great add-on to a beach morning.
